39-40 Bridgefoot Street, Dublin 8

File number: DS1363
Eircode: Dublin 8
Notes: The site to the south of 39-40 Bridgefoot Street was redeveloped into a public park by Dublin City Council from 2019 until its opening in 2022. The park plans incorporated an existing community garden on the site - now called Taplin's Field - that once cultivated tomatoes grown at the Grangegorman squat before its 2016 eviction (Kapila).
Past use: Previously occupied by Bridgefoot Joinery. The company went into liquidation in 2006, and the site was vacant by 2009 (CRO 3). The site was possibly occupied (as evident in the repainting of the facade and installation of hanging flowerpots seen on Google Streetview) for a period between 2014 and 2019. The demolition that occurred may have been connected to the Bridgefoot Street Park development, as both occurred during 2019.
Future use: No planning permissions are in place for the site.
Architectural significance: According to Google Streetview imagery, the structure's brick facade was demolished between 2018 and 2019. Today, the rusted steel substructure of the building, as well as some ancillary walls, remain onsite. The site was possibly occupied (as evident in the repainting of the facade and installation of hanging flowerpots seen on Google Streetview) between 2014 and 2019. The demolition that occurred may have been connected to Dublin City Council's development of the Bridgefoot Street Park beginning in 2019.
